A consultation with local residents regarding the choice of trees to accompany the tramway on the western part of the route has been launched. This consultation ended on May 17.
Christian Estrosi, the mayor of Nice, is pleased: “I commend the effort of initiative, curiosity, and involvement of the nearly 4,000 voters who participated in this consultation.
I have asked the teams to start working immediately to finalize the landscaping: public consultations will be launched in 2016 with nurseries to source the trees, and planting will begin at the end of 2017/beginning of 2018.”
Ultimately, more than 2,400 trees will enhance the new tramway line.
VOTING RESULTS
In the central section (on either side of the tramway platform), the votes are balanced between the three tree species with a slight preference for the Siberian Elm.
Given these results, it has been decided to position the three species on the segments where they scored best, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the city’s tree heritage:
ยท Section 1: Siberian Elm
ยท Section 2: Hornbeam
ยท Section 3: Alder
On the lateral sections (facade sides): two themes received 87% of the votes. The exotic theme leads with 52% of the votes, and the floral theme comes in second with 35% of the votes. Considering the preference for these two themes, it was decided to adopt both.
On the facade side, the final landscaping will be defined from the eight tree species selected during the consultation. Each tree species will undergo a precise study and will be placed along the route according to its suitability for its future site.
The final layout will also take into account the trees that are being preserved.
