Charlotte Bonnet wins her first individual medal, a bronze in the 200m freestyle. At 21, she enters the history of French swimming. Free from a weight, she can dream of a future that smiles.
Finally! Four years after her first major competition in London, Charlotte Bonnet steps onto an international podium. Just as she did four years ago at the London Olympics, the Nice native shines on the double lap. This time, she doesn’t have to share the medal in four, it’s a personal joy.
“This one means a lot today. Four years later, in the same pool, I finally win my first individual international medal. A lot of emotions and memories resurface,” Charlotte Bonnet posted on her official Facebook page, not forgetting to thank her family, coach, sponsors, and fans.
London suits her so well
Fabrice Pellerin’s student finishes third with a time of 1’56″51, two tenths off her personal record. In second place for 150m, Charlotte Bonnet can’t match the wonderful finish of the Italian champion, Federica Pellegrini. The title is decided by six tenths, a gap… quite close to the abilities of the young 21-year-old from Nice.
Successful championships
Three days after a fourth-place finish in the double lap and 24 hours after winning bronze in the 4x100m mixed freestyle relay, the ONN swimmer continues her fine European Championships in a pool she is fond of. With less than 80 days to the Rio Olympics, succeeding in this competition was imperative. It’s done. It’s also a big step forward toward the international elite of the 100m and 200m freestyle. Bonnet’s name was surely in the minds of many opponents, she will now be feared.
