A week after the inauguration of the National Museum of Sport, OGC Nice inaugurated its Café des Aiglons. This 100m² space is entirely dedicated to the history of the Nice club from 1904 to the present day. The 2014-2015 squad players were present for the occasion.
Located inside the National Museum of Sport, the Café des Aiglons is the first place that traces the history of OGC Nice since the club was founded in 1904. With its red and black walls, the place is warm, featuring a foosball table in the club’s colors reminiscent of a “Sports Café.”
“It’s a symbolic place and we are proud of it,” says Jean-Pierre Rivère, president of OGC Nice. “It’s up to us to add more items to the showcases.”
This Café des Aiglons will also be open to supporters who haven’t been forgotten in this space, with historical scarves and a jukebox playing numerous supporter chants. “This place will be festive on match nights, we will bring it to life,” adds the president of OGC Nice.
The standout feature of this “Café Museum,” as explained by Annie Lhéritier, chairwoman of the Museum of Sport’s Board, is the jersey wall behind the bar.
Among others, it includes the jersey of Dario Cvitanich, the first goal scorer at Allianz Riviera on September 22, 2013, and the jersey of Thierry De Neef, winner of the French Cup in 1997, the club’s last trophy.
For this inauguration, a large part of next season’s squad was present: captain Didier Digard, Eric Bauthéac, Romain Genevois, and others who quickly took over the foosball table.
The OGC Nice players will leave this Saturday for a one-week training camp in Divonne-les-Bains, culminating in Claude Puel’s side’s first friendly match against Bordeaux.
