Nice Volleyball achieved an easy victory against Narbonne with a score of 3 sets to 0. In a match controlled from start to finish, the team from Nice is moving closer to eighth place, which would qualify them for the next playoffs.
Tribute to Guy Tillie, co-founder of the club.
Before the match, all the supporters, officials, and both teams paid a heartfelt tribute to Guy Tillie, co-founder of Nice Volleyball in 1976. A great figure in local sports, he passed away on Tuesday, January 1st, at the age of 84. His son Laurent Tillie, coach of the French men’s national team since 2012, was present. He watched with great emotion during an ovation and a minute of applause in honor of his father.
A solid defense.
The NVB players effectively fulfilled their mission. Apart from the first set, the yellow and blue team was rarely troubled during the evening. Mladen Kasic’s men relied on a very solid defense. This aspect of the game was detrimental to the Narbonne team. They suffered 11 blocks, while Nice only encountered 4. Player number 12, Ah-Kong from Nice, was the defensive leader of the match. He blocked as many attacks as the entire opposing team.
The entire team, both starters and substitutes, showed solidarity and were present at every moment. The winter break allowed them to come to terms with the defeat against Tours, which they lost 3-1.
The playoffs in sight.
This significant victory allows Nice Volleyball to close within just one point of Ajaccio. The Corsican team is currently the last to qualify for the quarter-finals. After narrowly missing the top 8 last year, NVB doesn’t want to miss another chance for a prestigious postseason.
On Friday, January 18, at 8:00 PM at the Giamarchi hall, Nice will host Rennes, the championship leader.
