Last night, the Allianz Riviera stadium hosted the 6th edition of the Ambassadors of Sport 06. Sponsored by the 2018 Olympic silver medalist in snowboard cross, Julia Pereira, this event brings together athletes from the region. Notably, this year saw the presence of the coach of the French national football team, Didier Deschamps.
249! That is the number of sport ambassadors in the Alpes-Maritimes this year. All gathered for one evening at the heart of the prestigious OGC Nice stadium to receive an award but also, and above all, to promote values, whether they be sporting or human. Aged between 11 and 16, these young talents have won a total of 228 national championship titles in 34 different disciplines.
The initiative was created by the Department, which aims to highlight the youth of the Côte d’Azur and their sporting achievements. In total, 50 clubs from the Côte d’Azur participated in the ceremony under the eyes of a delighted sponsor: “If I can offer them something to continue to believe in what they do and in their dreams, I’m happy,” expressed Julia Pereira, who added: “I think all these young people are proud and happy to be here and that the department helps them to realize their dreams.” The mission for all the Ambassadors is to proudly represent the colors of their region, their club, and also the values of their sport.
Julia Pereira, 16 years old and already in silver
As a reminder, it was at only 16 years of age that Julia Pereira won the silver medal in snowboard cross at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. The young prodigy from Saint-Cézaire is a member of the Back to Back club in Isola 2000. By achieving this high-level performance, she became the youngest French medalist in the history of the Winter Games. Coming from the Ambassadors of Sport 06 program, she is also the first athlete from the initiative to win an Olympic medal.
