Literary Café: With Full Breath by Guillaume Néry

Latest News

We have conquered the sky and space, but not yet the depths of the oceans. Here, Guillaume Néry challenges the laws of nature with his courage and sheer willpower. After all, he is defying time. According to some theories of evolution, humans originate from the sea.

When we think of apnea, we think of The Big Blue, and for Guillaume Néry, it is a challenge to go ever deeper while not succumbing to the intoxication of the depths. Humans are tempted to go ever deeper into the abyss, perhaps in search of their origins. The Earth as seen from space is blue, 70% water, seas, oceans!

Guillaume Néry, born in Nice in 1982, is both a son of the mountains (the Mercantour) and the sea (the Mediterranean). This verticality naturally led him to discover apnea at the age of 14. Four world records, a prestigious track record, then the accident in 2015 when he attempted to reach 139 meters in depth. He then stopped competing.

Through this magnificent work: IN ONE BREATH, Guillaume Néry opens his album to us with landscapes and marine life. He takes us on a journey around the world to emblematic places where we first think of coconut trees, forgetting the true essence of his art. Apnea is an art, a philosophy, a wisdom. Then he leads us under the ice in Finland. We encounter whales, sharks, and underwater flora and fauna.

IN ONE BREATH, his photo album, is an intimate journal from the 14-year-old discovering the pleasure of harmony with the sea to the man who today shares his passion for the depths, a book of wisdom, that of those who know how to savor silence and nature. The world of silence, as defined by Commander Cousteau.
