The unemployment rate is down by 0.1 point, at 8.7% of the active population across France in the first quarter of 2019, its lowest level since early 2009, according to provisional figures from Insee published this Thursday.

In mainland France alone, this rate, measured by Insee according to the standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO), also decreases by 0.1 point and stands at 8.4%, which represents 2.4 million unemployed and 19,000 fewer compared to the previous quarter.

This decrease is less significant than that of the previous quarter, which saw a reduction of 0.3 point, or 90,000 fewer unemployed.

Over a year, the rate for all of France (excluding Mayotte) as well as for mainland France decreases by 0.5%. In mainland France, the rate is the same for both men and women at 8.4%.
