The first four projects of the Observatory of Technological, Economic, and Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence (OTESIA)

Latest News

OTESIA launches its first four research projects. All involve researchers from its partner and co-founder, Universitรฉ Cรดte d’Azur, which is also a laureate of the national call for projects “Interdisciplinary Institute in Artificial Intelligence” (3IA), showcasing the exceptional expertise of researchers in our region in the AI field. The results of these projects will lead to specialized publications as well as articles intended for the general public.

Here are the details:

1st project: Survey “AI & Health”: Decoding the multiple dimensions and impacts of digital usage in medical-social institutions, particularly in nursing homes, to assess the level of digital tool (including artificial intelligence) acculturation and adoption by both professionals and residents, the link forged between care and digital technology, as well as the level of cooperation and coordination with other health system stakeholders, aiming to identify risky situations, anticipate needs, and put digital technology at the service of institutions and their residents.

2nd project: Prevention of Cyberbullying and Cyber Hate: Develop software for detecting hate messages based on natural language analysis to understand their argumentative structure, enabling victims to develop critical thinking and counter-discourse for better combating cyberbullying and cyber hate.

3rd project: Artificial Intelligence Devoted to Education (AIDE): Study the development of computational thinking through a dual approach: creative and critically minded towards digital technology, and modeling creative problem-solving tasks.

4th project: Impact of Machine Learning on Skills: Contribute to an understanding of the learning processes through which companies develop new technological capabilities.

Project leaders expressed their satisfaction with the progress:

For Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, President of the Departmental Council of Alpes-Maritimes, President of the Joint Union of the House of Artificial Intelligence (S2MIA): “The launch of OTESIA’s first four projects will allow us to better understand the challenges of Artificial Intelligence and consider how our region can respond to them. Itโ€™s a demonstration that Alpes-Maritimes can become a national reference in AI, showcasing our strength to be at the heart of the digital revolution.”

For Jeanick Brisswalter, President of Universitรฉ Cรดte d’Azur: “This unique observatory in Europe produces surveys with a dual purpose: a scientific study of the impacts of AI in fields as varied as business economics, education, health, and public life, and an explanation of these surveys intended for the general public.”
