During the press conference about the Halle de la Gare du Sud, the elected officials from the group “Another Future for Nice” gathered around Patrick Allemand this Tuesday. Is the Gare du Sud on the verge of being forgotten?
The purpose of the press conference was, of course, not to demolish the project itself. Indeed, the elected officials of the group acknowledge that the renovation of the hall is a complete success, aesthetically. Hence, their desire to see this project succeed.
At the time of the project’s vote, municipal oppositions all focused on the particularly advantageous conditions of the Administrative Long-term Lease (BEA) granted by the city to the chosen company (Urban Renaissance).
For the officials present, it is imperative to react quickly by:
โ Returning to the initial concept, which was a triptych: chefs’ tables, vintage, and Lounge club disco. Today, we are far from that. In the mezzanine, there’s a bit of everything but little “vintage.” As for the disco, it has been replaced by a thrift store that sells clothes by the kilo!
โ Quickly finding a solution for the hall’s internal temperature, frequently over 30ยฐC and reaching 46 degrees in some kitchens. The ventilation provided by opening the partitions to the open air is insufficient during high heat. Urban Renaissance, which replaced Banimmo, must carry out the work without delay. This concerns the employees’ health, and the labor inspection is informed.
โ In this context of high heat, sales have decreased by 40% or more, unlike the rents paid by the operators. If a rebound does not happen quickly, the economic model on which the concept was built could collapse.
This is why Patrick Allemand has sent a letter to Christian Estrosi, outlining the desired improvements.
