Once again, the Eagles of Nice will have to wait a few days or weeks to resume competition in the Ligue Magnus. This gives them extra rest since the last nail-biting encounter against Gap on December 20th.
The Resumption Will Wait
The year 2021 did not wait long to see its first postponement. The pandemic is not yet behind us and has once again affected the French ice hockey championship. The season was supposed to resume last night at the Richard Bozon hall in Chamonix. However, the team from the French Riviera will have to be patient before they can get back on the ice.
Should the Season Be Shortened?
This event brings up an issue that has been discussed several times since the start of the 2020-2021 season. There is a significant discrepancy in the number of games played between some teams. With a total of four games played, Cergy-Pontoise is the team that has spent the least time on the ice. On the other hand, Nice has engaged with opponents the most, with 12 games. Consequently, it’s clear that the pace varies significantly and will likely play a role as we come down the home stretch towards the title.
The season is set to end on March 5th with the conclusion of the 44th matchday. Now, how can we envision 32 games for Nice and 40 for Cergy-Pontoise over the span of just three months? The Federation will quickly consider the study of two possibilities. The first is to shorten the season, and the second is to postpone the final deadline of the Ligue Magnus. In any case, there will be a major impact on the continuation of the championship.
The Next Match
As of today, the next match for the red and black team is scheduled for January 12th at 8 PM as part of the 23rd matchday of the championship. They will face Grenoble in the framework of the 9th day of the Ligue Magnus.
