Sad news for motorsport fans, especially those of rallying. The Monte-Carlo Historique and Classique 2021 have been canceled given the current health situation in the Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโAzur (PACA) region.
Initially scheduled for January 30 to February 3 and February 1 to 3, the Monaco competitions are forced to skip a year, despite efforts to make them happen. The organizers, the Automobile Club de Monaco, had attempted an optimization by eliminating the concentration routes. This Thursday, the General Commissioner of ASM, Christian Tornatore, expressed with these words:
“Following the strengthening of health measures in France, notably the extension of the curfew to all crossed departments and the difficulties related to the closure of reception structures, the decision was made by the Organizing Committee to cancel the 24th edition of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, which was to start from Monaco on the 30th of January.”
“We have a special thought this evening for our competitor friends, marshals, volunteers, elected officials, partners, and all the people affected by this cancellation. [โฆ] the current situation no longer allows for the event to take place in the convivial and generally festive spirit of this regularity competition. As the event’s DNA is no longer guaranteed, it was not reasonable not to meet the expectations of the competitors…” he added.
However, if we can offer some good news, the Rallye Monte-Carlo is still on. No worries, despite some optimization changes, the new WRC season will indeed open in the heights of the Rock. The planned changes are the implementation of a complete closed-door event and an adaptation of schedules in accordance with the 6 PM curfew.
A noteworthy event in recent days, the French Sรฉbastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia had a spectacular off-road incident. Fortunately, the reigning world champions escaped with just a scare and will be able to defend their title at the end of the month.
