The situation remains degraded, at the end of a year unlike any since World War II: between the end of 2019 and the end of 2020, the number of people listed in category A increased by 7.5%. The number of job seekers without any activity (category A) reached 3.8 million for the year, after a decline of 2.7% in the last quarter.

The decline observed during the last three months of the past year affected all age groups, but it was more pronounced among those under 25: -5.2% in mainland France, compared to -3.1% for those aged 25-49 and -0.5% for those aged 50 and over.

In contrast, the number of people looking for a job while having worked (categories B and C) experienced the opposite trend during the fourth quarter of 2020, with an increase of 1.2% compared to the period from early July to late September 2020, in mainland France.

Overall, the number of individuals seeking a job, whether they have worked or not (categories A, B, and C), decreased over the last three months of 2020 (-1.3% compared to the third quarter), while remaining at a higher level than at the end of 2019: a little over six million across the entire territory, which is an increase of 4.5%.

Another significant issue: the number of people searching for a job for at least a year (in categories A, B, and C) continued to grow: +1.7% in the last quarter of 2020 (+8.6% over the entire year). It is now close to three million.
