The latest significant addition for OGCN in this summer transfer window, Jeff Rein-Adélaïde was officially presented to the press this Thursday. It was an opportunity for him to explain his choice.
Lacking playing time with Olympique Lyonnais, the hopeful international expressed his desire to revive his career with a new challenge. A few weeks later, here he is freshly arrived on the Côte d’Azur on loan with a purchase option of 25 million euros, the same amount OL paid last year for his transfer from Angers.
Once courted by Hertha Berlin and Stade Rennais, the French midfielder was clearly well influenced by one of his former teammates at Lyon, Amine Gouiri: “he’s a good seller! I talked with him a lot. He feels great here, as you’ve seen. I hope we’ll achieve great things on the field.”
Another aspect that certainly tipped the balance in favor of the Aiglons is the qualification for the European Cup: “Nice is a very ambitious club that wants to be competitive on all fronts.”
Furthermore, discussions between the two parties are not recent: “Nice has been following me for quite a few years. Last year it was a bit too late, I had already made my decision in favor of OL. The fact that the leaders approached me several times shows that they really wanted me.”
Jean Pierre Rivère: “We can be satisfied with the transfer window”
Speaking about the last-minute transfer of Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, President Rivère justified the timing of this final recruit: “We did a very early transfer window from June, which is ideal. Everyone would like to have their squad when the season restarts. This year, it was very complicated, you know the context, so it wasn’t intentional to make a move at the last moment. Sometimes in the final moments, files get unlocked.”
A little later, Jean Pierre Rivère provided an update on the rather eventful transfer market of OGCN with 12 arrivals and 6 departures along with numerous loans. “We will find out at the end of the season if a transfer window is good or bad. What is certain is that we must congratulate Julien Fournier and the entire team working with him because they have done a great job. Overall, I believe we can be satisfied with the transfer window, but it is a temporary satisfaction. The real satisfaction will come at the end of the season based on how things have gone with the players we have recruited.”
