This is demonstrated by a study published in Clinical Microbiology and Infection, conducted on approximately 400 cases of COVID-19 analyzed between March and May 2020. It was shown that exposure decreases as contagion decreases, and the viral load of patients arriving at emergency departments progressively reduced to a thousand times less than in March; concurrently, the severity of the disease also decreased.
The study confirms, based on clinical data from a large sample, the importance of limiting exposure to infection with masks and physical distancing: therefore, to keep the transmission of the virus at a low level.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, at least 1.1 million deaths have been reported out of more than 39.7 million cases. The United States is the most bereaved country in the world with 219,289 deaths, followed by Brazil (153,675), India (114,031), and Mexico (86,059).
For its part, Europe surpassed the 250,000 victim mark on Sunday (for 7,366,028 cases), with more than two-thirds in the United Kingdom (43,646 deaths), Italy (36,543), Spain (33,775), France (33,392), and Russia (24,187).
Across the Old Continent, measures are being taken to curb the spread of the virus.
