As part of the heightened vigilance of State services, shrubs of the myrtle-leaved polygala (Polygala myrtifolia) and Euryops chrysanthemoides have been identified as carriers of the Xylella Fastidiosa bacteria, subspecies multiplex, by the ANSES plant health laboratory.
The newly discovered infected shrubs were collected as part of the monitoring of the buffer zone created following the discovery of initial outbreaks in late 2015, early 2016.
In accordance with measures to prevent the introduction and spread of Xylella Fastidiosa within the European Union, the prefecture has implemented the following measures:
– Establishment of a so-called “infected” zone of 100 meters around the contaminated plants
– Establishment of a new so-called “buffer” zone of 10 kilometers around this infected zone
An epidemiological investigation aimed at determining the origin of the contaminated plants and their planting dates is also underway.
These new cases bring the number of outbreaks discovered to 50 in the Alpes Maritimes.
