As agreed, a new meeting of the Synerglace Ligue Magnus clubs was organized on March 1, 2021, for them to decide on whether or not to hold playoffs at the end of the regular season. The clubs were invited to answer the following questions:

  • Should the championship end on April 3, 2021, after the home-and-away matches (regular season)? Knowing that if this is the case, the first of the regular season will be the French champion;
  • Should playoffs be organized? Knowing that if playoffs occur, the winner of the playoffs will be the French champion.

After the discussions, a majority of clubs (7 out of 12) were in favor of ending the competition at the end of the regular season, i.e., on April 3, 2021, and awarding the title of French champion to the winner of the regular season.

(Additional elements are available in the federation’s press release: https://liguemagnus.com/2021/03/10/communique-decisions-du-bureau-directeur-sur-la-saison-2020-2021/)

Considering all these elements, the Executive Board of the FFHG decided on March 5, 2021:

  • Not to organize playoffs at the end of the Synerglace Ligue Magnus regular season, which ends on April 3, 2021;
  • To confirm the previous position that the title of Champion of France for Synerglace Ligue Magnus will be awarded to the winner of the regular season;
  • To validate the calculation method for considering matches played before the implementation of the competition format providing for a simple home-and-away schedule, as follows:

A rule of three that only applies to matches played between the two teams. For example, as Nice and Bordeaux have met three times, a rule of three applies to these three matches and these two teams only;

  • To confirm the definitive cancellation of the Coupe de France for the 2020/2021 season;
  • To reiterate the hierarchy for allocating European competition places, understanding that the European cups concerned are, in order of importance, the Champions Hockey League (CHL) followed by the Continental Cup, provided that France is allocated a qualifying spot in these competitions. Article 8 of the SLM1 regulations thus states that the hierarchy for the allocation of European places is established as follows:

. French Champion
. Coupe de France Winner
. Regular Season Winner
. French Championship Finalist
. Coupe de France Finalist
