In a somber atmosphere due to the very serious accident involving Jason Dupasquier during the Moto3 qualifying finale, the MotoGP pole position at Mugello goes to Fabio Quartararo, who leads ahead of Francesco Bagnaia and Johann Zarco in a session that lights up in the last minutes.
Under threatening clouds, the Yamaha rider set a time of 1’45″187, the track record, clearly showing that he is comfortable with the nimble M1 in the battle against the very fast Ducatis. Behind him, with the second-best time, is Bagnaia, at 0″230, followed by Zarco (Pramac team) at 0″245, with Jack Miller in fifth place (+0″411). Among them, truly remarkable, is Aleix Espargaro, 4th with an Aprilia that shows evident signs of growth, reassuring for its future.
Completing the top ten: 6th is Brad Binder (+0″556) with a KTM that seems to have returned to form after a challenging start to the season, as confirmed by his teammate Miguel Oliveira’s 7th time, opening the third row which includes Alex Rins’ Suzuki, 8th at 0″809, and Joan Mir, 9th at 0″889. Franco Morbidelli rounds out the top 10 with his M1 SRT, hampered by a significant speed deficit on the straight.
Valentino Rossi, at “his” Mugello, will start only 19th, struggling significantly with his Yamaha SRT, also behind Enea Bastianini, 14th with the Ducati Avintia Esponsorama; Michele Pirro, 16th with the Ducati Pramac; Luca Marini, 17th with the Ducati VR46 Avintia, and Danilo Petrucci, 18th with the KTM Tech3.
