As part of the departmental action plan for promoting republican and civic values among young people, the Departmental Council organized the Charles-Gottlieb prize aimed at fostering a constructive dynamic around citizenship by involving the youth of the Azure region.
Each year, this prize rewards the best work by middle school students, developed after memory trips by the teaching teams and students for those who did not participate.
Charles Gottlieb was the tireless ambassador of memory trips to the Auschwitz camp. From 2004 until his passing in 2015, he tirelessly recounted and shared his harrowing experience with thousands of middle school students, both during his thirty trips and during his interventions in schools in the Maralpin area.
For this 6th edition, 8 middle schools in the Maralpin area submitted their works to a distinguished jury that aimed to highlight the most deserving projects from the memory trips of December 2021 to the Auschwitz camp.
The format and content of the work were left to the discretion of the schools (the proposed works are all very different, including artistic and literary creations, videos, soundtracks, drawings, narrative texts, or even student testimonies and feelings).
For this 2022 edition, the Jules-Valรฉri middle school of Nice received the 1st prize for its film โOur Shadows Still Speak.โ This award will allow them to visit Paris on July 6th, where they will tour the National Assembly and the Holocaust Memorial, and receive a Pass Excellence valued at 160 euros, akin to receiving Very Good honors in the middle school diploma.
The Andrรฉ-Malraux middle school of Cagnes-sur-Mer and the Jean-Henri-Fabre middle school of Nice received the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively for their films โNacht und Nebel, Night and Fog over Auschwitz-Birkenauโ and โFirst Impressions.โ Finally, the Jean-Baptiste-Rusca middle school of Tende received the Special Jury Prize for creating a timeline โMemories, Transmission.โ
