During a press conference, the park director Christophe Viret and his collaborators unveiled their projects at the Mercantour National Park.
Thanks to new permanent activities, Christophe Viret, the domain’s director, is delighted with the innovations that should continue to attract tourists from around the world. In 2019, the park will celebrate its 40th anniversary, an opportunity to redevelop some parts of the Mercantour Park and to adapt a feature film there.
In this vast cross-border territory, one of the major projects of the Alpes de la Mer Méditerranée committee is to register the Mercantour National Park as a UNESCO World Heritage site. An application was confirmed this Thursday and is expected to be submitted by summer 2019.
Organized around protected natural areas, the Mercantour Park is particularly focused on geological values. The domain houses a good number of archaeological sites accessible via hiking trails. With a hiking circuit over 550 kilometers long, the park attracts tourists while preserving as much biodiversity as possible. “Discovery” activities and events are organized to better understand the different species within the Mercantour domain.
Equipped notably with a new website, one of the new features of the Mercantour National Park is the creation of an Instagram account. A modernization of the group to continue generating excitement around the park’s magnificent landscapes. The hashtag #MyMercantour has also been launched. On the site, over 30 accommodation and dining structures are listed and made available to visitors.
Each year, events and exhibitions for the public take place in the park. Within the Mercantour domain, art holds great interest. The Sapinière Park House in Barcelonnette will host the “Between Day & Night” exhibition from June 15 to September 15.
