The “Zero Waste” Day: inform, explain, educate to protect the environment

Latest News

Yesterday, the Promenade du Paillon was the scene of the “Zero Waste” Day.

For several months, the Maison de l’Environnement has been organizing “Zero Waste” workshops or challenges every week.

This time, a whole day of prevention with numerous experts allowed participants to become familiar with simple actions that protect the environment.

According to “Science Advances”, 8.3 billion tons of plastic were produced between 1950 and 2015, and only 9% of that has been recycled. This means that more than 6 billion tons are already waste and are accumulating, notably in nature, in seas and oceans, leading to the death of many species. If nothing changes, the threshold of 12 billion tons of waste will be surpassed by 2050, warns the UN. Faced with this scourge, there is only one solution: change behaviors to achieve the regional goal of zero plastic waste by 2030.

Good practices were discovered throughout the Zero Waste Day organized by the Maison de l’Environnement, such as:

  • giving a second life to your broken items instead of throwing them away through the “Repair Café” repair workshop.

  • testing your knowledge on waste by participating in an interactive quiz organized by the Association for the Development of Environmental Education (ADEE).

  • working on their artistic skills with a recycling workshop led by “En Vert et Rouge”.

  • Learning that zero waste can lead to savings. This was explained by the members of the association “Zéro Déchet Nice”.

  • gaining information at information and activity stands about marine environment protection with Paddle Cleaner or on food waste.
