How to deal with the incivility of drivers who disregard the most basic rules without any consideration or respect for sensitive situations?
How do you explain to people with disabilities or motor difficulties, to those pushing a stroller or a pram who must wait or maneuver around a car that blocks the traffic, especially at red lights?
We know that traffic in Nice resembles an urban Wild West, where people do as they please and couldn’t care less about others.
So, the question arises naturally: how to protect citizens from uncivil and sometimes dangerous behaviors?
The answer can only be one: through penalties!
This is the conclusion the Municipality reached by equipping the Municipal Police with a new tool (the clamp) that immobilizes vehicles obstructively parked, along with new financial penalties (a fine of 22 euros plus the infraction-specific fine).
This new procedure, which precedes impoundment if the driver does not show up, is intended to be “educational and dissuasive” – according to delegated municipal councilor Gaël Nofri, emphasizing the second option.
For him, “the response is proportional to the unacceptable attitudes.”
We will have to see if the Municipal Police will be able to implement this measure effectively. It has been heard that 40 clamps will be supplied to the officers initially. Frankly, a drop in the ocean.
Taking the example of the canine brigade, which was supposed to intervene to stop defecation and other issues from “man’s best friend”, the condition of Nice’s sidewalks leaves much to be desired.
