The European Commissioner in charge of the Security Union, Julian KING, confirmed that the City of Nice’s application has been selected to coordinate the new partnership of the Urban Agenda for the European Union dedicated to urban security. It will be supported in its mission by the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS).
The Directors-General for urban issues from all the Member States of the European Union have chosen the City of Nice to coordinate this European partnership for a duration of three years.
The partnership members will include the cities of Brussels, Madrid, Helsinki, Riga, Mechelen, Lille, the union of Italian municipalities of Romagna Faentina, the Tuscany region, Torun in Poland, the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Construction and Territorial Development of Hungary, as well as the European Investment Bank.
The objective of this partnership for urban security will be to bring local authorities, Member States, and European institutions together to affirm the role of cities in European security policy, enhance knowledge sharing and the exchange of best practices, propose legislative developments and new financing frameworks at the European level.
The European Commission encourages and supports, including financially, the exchange of best practices between European cities on security-related matters as this contributes to strengthening our collective security and resilience capabilities.”
