Nice paid tribute to the 95 victims of the Nice-Ajaccio Caravelle plane crash.

On September 11, 1968, 3 minutes before landing, a Caravelle from Ajaccio headed for Nice plunged into the sea off Cap d’Antibes.

The crash resulted in 95 deaths, including 13 children and 6 crew members. Everyone on the plane died that day. Consequently, every year Nice pays tribute to the deceased.

This year, during the commemoration of the Nice-Ajaccio Caravelle, the bitterness is more evident than ever. More than half a century after the tragedy, the victims’ families are demanding the opening of a new investigation.

The ceremony gave relatives the opportunity to point the finger at the State, which they consider guilty of not acknowledging the error made. The narrative that a fire broke out at the back of the plane leaves them doubtful. For them, it is believed to have been an accidental military shot.

Every year, the families despair of not seeing the situation evolve, and express their need to get answers.

Mathieu Paoli,
the president of the victims’ association, reiterated his weariness and his desire to see the “secret-defense” lifted. Today at 10:30 am, a mass will be held in their honor at Sainte-Hélène Church.
