Last night, September 16th, the Antoine Lacassagne Center or the Mediterranean Institute of Proton Therapy opened its doors to celebrate its 60th anniversary as well as 30 years of proton therapy.
“Humanity first” are the words displayed on the welcome screen. Before beginning the speech, there’s nothing like a short video trailer to set the tone for the ceremony.
As Emmanuel Barranger (General Director of the Antoine Lacassagne Center) approached the stage, he started by thanking all the personnel and primarily the medical team. Amid the applause from the guests, the General Director of the Antoine Lacassagne Center proudly wished a “very happy birthday” to the 60th anniversary of the Mediterranean Institute of Proton Therapy. Building on his momentum, Emmanuel Barranger did not hesitate to recount the past of the healthcare establishment, not the full history, but just a reminder.”I won’t tell the whole story, only a few important excerpts.”
Eric Ciotti (Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Alpes-Maritimes Department) was also present and wished to say a few words in honor of this special day. “Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for around 10 million deaths per year and nearly one in six deaths.” He reminded “I also want to commend the research work of the teams present at the institute; it’s important to support the research and teams fighting against this scourge every day.”
The ceremony concluded on a note of gratitude before the guests could enjoy the buffet offered to them.
