Already having made a long-distance breakaway yesterday for the inaugural stage of the 4 Days of Dunkirk, Damien Girard did it again today.
An arrival promised to the punchers. This is what awaited the riders for this second stage with a final climb of 1.6 km at an average of 7%. Between Compiรจgne and Laon (170 km), the neo-professional from the Team Nice Mรฉtropole Cรดte dโAzur, Damien Girard once again showed himself at the front. Even though the breakaway once again had little chance of going all the way, the young 21-year-old rider continues to gain experience in these major races. In a group of six riders, Damien Girard once again covered more than 120 km at the head of the race before fading 21 km from the finish. On the positive side, he also scored two points and is now 5th in the mountain classification with 7 points.
In the finale, the major teams like Cofidis or Groupama FDJ quickly locked down the race, leaving no chance for the Aiglons to shine. Nonetheless, we note the 28th place of one of the team’s leaders, Jean-Louis Le Ny, as well as the 33rd place of Jonathan Couanon. Both finished in the peloton that saw the victory of Romain Grรฉgoire (Groupama FDJ).
