It’s quite simple, since the opening of the summer transfer window last month, le Gym hasn’t signed any new players. At a time when competitors like OM, LOSC, and AS Monaco continue to strengthen, the inactivity of Nice raises curiosity…
On the departure side, however, the situation is different. The Eagles announced this week the departure of central defender Ange Ahoussou, who is heading to Pau FC, a Ligue 2 club. Due to a lack of playing time, the 19-year-old Ivorian will attempt to give a fresh boost to his young career. Loaned to LB Chรขteauroux (National 1) last season, the native of Bouakรฉ is packing up for good.
And as one piece of news never comes alone, Jean N’Guessan is joining FC Metz. Having arrived at le Gym in the summer of 2021, the Ivorian midfielder had been loaned for two consecutive seasons to Lausanne (Swiss D1) then to Nรฎmes (Ligue 2). N’Guessan will therefore discover the top tier of French football with a Metz team recently promoted to Ligue 1.
An already complete squad?
If Nice is taking its time during this transfer window, which, let’s remember, will end on September 1 at midnight, it’s because there’s no emergency. With key players like Todibo, Atal, Thuram, Boudaoui, and Laborde, the squad seems ready to compete at the top of the league table next season. However, Dante’s advancing years are becoming noticeable, and Farioli doesn’t seem to count on Melvin Bard for next season. Therefore, strengthening the defensive sector of the squad is the priority this summer.
In this regard, the Eagles have shown interest in central defender Formose Mendy (L’Equipe). The promising young Senegalese has ultimately signed with Lorient. It’s a blow for le Gym, which was negotiating a loan with an option to buy in hopes of securing the services of the now ex-Amiens player. Meanwhile, as mentioned last week, Nice continues to pursue Algerian Rayan Aรฏt-Nouri (Wolverhampton), although competition is fierce. Finally, Juventus of Turin is open to negotiations and might give up Luca Pellegrini to le Gym. The condition? A loan with an obligatory purchase option of 8 million euros to acquire the former Italian international, according to Tutto Sport.
