The plenary session of the departmental council of Alpes-Maritimes, chaired by Charles Ange Ginรฉsy, took place yesterday morning at the CADAM. The agenda focused on the budget.
The atmosphere was serene, and the session proceeded without a hitch. No disputes in sight this time (unlike the municipal and metropolitan councils). Charles Ange Ginรฉsy granted the floor to anyone who requested it, did not cut off an elected official’s microphone before they finished speaking, and allowed them to respond after their intervention. The president even acknowledged the presence of the press at the end and thanked us for attending. It’s quite rare to be noted.
The Mercury Cinema becomes the Jean-Paul Belmondo Cinema
On the cultural side, the Mercury Cinema will change its name to honor Jean-Paul Belmondo. The oldest cinema in Nice is located at Place Garibaldi. It will pay tribute to the actor who was familiar with the neighborhood and loved the Cรดte d’Azur. The resolution was adopted without issue. Philippe Soussi (departmental councilor of the Nice 9 canton) nonetheless proposed that both artists’ names be combined to preserve the homage to Freddie Mercury.
Bernard Asso (departmental councilor of the Nice 2 canton) found this “surreal.” Charles Ange Ginรฉsy rejected this proposal, deeming it “difficult to give two names to one object.”
The Ambition of Charles Ange Ginรฉsy
Mr. Ginรฉsy announced his projects. He wishes “to make the Alpes-Maritimes a sustainable and intelligent territory, respectful of its historical and natural heritage while being resolutely future-oriented.” To achieve this, he follows his “Green Deal” and “Smart Deal” policies.
He also wants to make it “an innovative, attractive, protective land for its populations and at the forefront of environmental progress.” New social measures aim to “preserve a quality local public service.”
