Just yesterday, the inauguration of the new municipal police station was held at the Port of Nice. In the company of Christian Estrosi and Anthony Borrรฉ, Vice-President of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, the ceremony was followed by a briefing at sea on summer security, aboard the nautical brigade’s boat.
Presented by the mayor last December, the project to install a municipal police station dedicated to the Port and the coastal strip was eagerly awaited by local residents. Located in the Ports d’Azur management office on Quai Lunel, near Robilant, the police station offers reassurance. It includes a reception area for residents and users, complemented by eleven municipal police officers who can rely on nautical resources moored in the customs area.
“Nice is undoubtedly the most visited city in France.”
Christian Estrosi
During the inauguration, Christian Estrosi gave a speech in which he showed sympathy towards the police officers, who have had a hectic daily life recently.
“[โฆ] I am proud of you, you who are often first responders. You who are brothers-in-arms with your national police colleagues. It is thanks to your collective action that Nice stood firm against the riots, a few weeks ago, caused by looters. [โฆ] You and your colleagues from the national police who for so many months have been constantly mobilized in the field, to fight against drug trafficking, face rioters, against waves of attacks, the yellow vests, health crisesโฆ If our country is still a state of law, it is thanks to you! To all of you.”
A delicate position
It goes without saying that the situation of the police officers in France, and particularly in Nice, is alarming. After the arrest of a BAC officer in Marseille, detained as part of an investigation into police violence, internal protests are pouring in. Between strikes and sick leaves, all means are good to highlight an increasingly marked solidarity, and more broadly to express general discontent.
The lack of personnel in the police is clearly felt and this Tuesday, July 25, the Saint-Augustin police station in Nice was forced to close its doors in the late afternoon. The latest maneuver implemented by the officers, wearing a blue armband in support of their colleagues from the National Police. Christian Estrosi declares on this subject:
“At a time when I understand the discomfort and well-being issues of your national police colleagues; I want to reiterate my full confidence in the national police. [โฆ] I also know that you have decided in solidarity with your colleagues to wear a blue armband. Know that I support this initiative.”
