In a heated Leyrit hall, the Cavigal Nice players managed to lift their spirits after 8 defeats in the league by beating Basket Landes at the end of a suspenseful game, 58-55.
Not everything was easy in this match. The Landes team, led by French national team captain Céline Dumerc, dominated the game for three quarters, but never managed to lead by more than 7 points. The Niss’Angels stayed in touch through sheer willpower, despite numerous technical shooting errors.
Their rebounding score attests to this (33 to 32), even though they did not start with a true center (position 5). As the game progressed, they managed to impose their desire, even frustrating the Landes team, as seen by Céline Dumerc receiving a technical foul in the third quarter. Only Cierra Bravard managed to challenge the locals with her physical strength. She was too alone.
Ambrosia Anderson and Laëtitia Kamba, scoring 13 and 14 points respectively, managed to hit two essential three-pointers. With her key shots in the first half, Kamba ensured the team wasn’t left behind, and at the start of the last quarter, Anderson propelled her teammates toward victory. Kamba is undoubtedly the player of the game, completing a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).
The highlight of the match was brought by Romy Bär, in the last quarter, when the German outmaneuvered Céline Dumerc by spinning around her before scoring the equalizer at 53-53, igniting the crowd in the process.
Thanks to this victory, Cavigal maintains their 9th place, tied with Hainaut.
