It begins this Tuesday at the Acropolis Convention Center, and this year, it is the city of Nice hosting the annual forum on the European Union Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP).
During these two days, topics such as sustainable tourism, attractiveness, training, and employment… will be highlighted with the presence of Renaud Muselier, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, and Deputy President of Regions of France.
Indeed, the Alps account for 80 million inhabitants and approximately 10% of the European Union’s land area. They also comprise 48 regions located in seven countries, five of which are EU members.
The aim of this forum is therefore to better understand the challenges of this mountainous region, in order to address them within a framework of European cooperation.
High-level exchanges, alongside experts, the new EUSALP Youth Council, members of civil society, as well as political representatives from the 7 concerned states, will enliven these two days.
The ambitions are mainly focused on climate change. The objectives are multiple, for example, to decarbonize the region by 2030, or to develop sustainable mobility and transportation.
Each year, governance is entrusted to a new country (with an exception this year, due to Covid-19). In 2022, it will be the turn of the Italian presidency, represented by the two autonomous provinces of Trentino-Alto Adige.
