After consultation with elected officials, Bernard Gonzalez, the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, has authorized bars and restaurants to close at 2 AM on New Year’s Eve. He also specifies that service should end by 1 AM.
In a communiqué, he also specified that the following measures would be implemented throughout the department from December 31 at 6 PM to January 2, 2022, at 6 AM:
- The consumption of alcoholic beverages in squares, streets, and public places, except on authorized restaurant terraces and licensed drinking establishments, is prohibited.
- The consumption of food while walking in squares, streets, and public places, except on authorized restaurant terraces and licensed drinking establishments, is prohibited.
- The broadcast of amplified music, especially via loudspeakers, is prohibited in public spaces.
- In licensed drinking establishments and restaurants, service must stop by 1 AM and these establishments must close their doors at 2 AM on the night of January 1, 2022, with no possibility for mayors to deviate from this schedule.
- All dancing activities in establishments open to the public as well as in public spaces are also prohibited.
Additionally, “to ensure the safety of everyone during the end-of-year celebrations”, the distribution, sale, and purchase of fuel, corrosive combustibles, and flammable gases in retail are prohibited in any transportable container – except in cases of justified necessity verified by police and gendarmerie services – from December 30 to January 2.
“Retailers, managers, and operators of gas stations, especially those with automated devices for fuel distribution, must take the necessary measures to enforce this prohibition”, specifies the Prefecture.
