The national commission in charge of nominations for the legislative elections has announced a significant portion (428 out of 577) of the candidates who will stand for the voters in this election.
In the Alpes-Maritimes, 9 constituencies are at stake. The incumbents are all registered with the Les Rรฉpublicains group.
The nominations concern only 6 candidates, while the other names will be announced in the coming days, according to the headquarters of Emmanuel Macron’s movement in Paris.
Of the six, one name has already been mentioned, that of the candidate for the 1st constituency, Caroline Reverso Meinetti, who will have the daunting task of facing the incumbent deputy and both national and local leader (he is president of the Departmental Council) Eric Ciotti.
The other candidates are in the 4th constituency (Menton) Alexandra Valetta-Ardisson, former municipal councilor of Grasse, elected on the LR list of Jรฉrรดme Viaud, who resigned last March to join En Marche!; in the 6th (Cagnes and Saint-Laurent) Nathalie Audin, head of the Union of Democrats and Ecologists and of the Democratic Front 06; in the 7th (Antibes) Khaled Ben Abderrahmane, ex-PS and early Macron supporter in the department; in the 8th (Cannes) Philippe Buerch, a notary from Cannes and leader of the Right with Macron; in the 9th (Cannet-Mougins) Dominique Fillebeen, former leader of the Greens in the Alpes-Maritimes in the early 2000s.
No candidates announced in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th constituencies, whose current deputies are Charles-Ange Ginesy (who is not running again and will be replaced by Anne Sattonnet), Rudy Salles (in office since June 1988 and running for the 7th term), and Marine Brenier, who replaced Christian Estrosi mid-term after his election to the PACA Region.
One might wonder if Christian Estrosi, whose last two deputies are very close to him, might receive preferential treatment, which, considering the unwavering support he provided to Emmanuel Macron for the second round, would only be fair in return.
In any case, it seems unlikely that the “En Marche!” candidates could significantly threaten the two “estrosistes,” who are well-established and strongly supported.
Is this not, after all, the opportunity for Emmanuel Macron to repay a moral debt and send candidates for a pleasant outing before returning home?
