OGC Nice Handball was defeated tonight at home against Besançon (30-35).
OGC Nice hosted Entente de Besançon. After their victory in the Coupe de France against Toulouse, the Niçoises were back in the Ligue Butagaz. It was an opportunity for Clément Alcacer’s team to bounce back after their defeat against Paris 92 in the last matchday.
From the start of the match, the home team took charge and attempted to pull away. However, penalized by two-minute suspensions, Besançon came back into the match and thwarted the Niçoises’ attacks. Although leading for 10 minutes, the Niçoises found themselves trailing after a quarter of an hour of play.
The Aiglonnes stayed close to their opponents thanks to the outstanding performance of their goalkeeper, Maria Colic, who made several crucial saves. Unfortunately, it was not enough to regain the lead before halftime. They were down (18-15) at the break.
A Carbon Copy of the First Half
Like in the first half, the Aiglonnes returned with strong intentions. Better yet, they leveled the score, overcoming their three-goal deficit. Driven by their captain Eshan Abdelmalek, the red and black team dominated.
However, just like in the first period, they eased up. Despite some refereeing decisions contested by the local fans, Besançon regained the lead, extending it to three goals, an advantage the visitors maintained.
Unfortunately, the comeback did not happen. The Aiglonnes lost at home to Besançon (30-35). Another setback following their defeat in the last matchday. Clément Alcacer’s team will play their next match against Achenheim Truchtersheim in the suburbs of Strasbourg on October 4.
