The Grassois driver Théo Pourchaire is set to discover the IndyCar championship. Signed by the McLaren Arrows team to replace David Malukas, he adds a new line to his CV.
It was an open secret. Having been in the United States for a few days, Théo Pourchaire, currently participating in SuperFormula in Japan, is about to discover America. The current Formula 2 champion will be at the start of his first IndyCar race. A huge challenge for the young 20-year-old from the French Riviera. “It’s an incredible opportunity to drive with such a legendary team in a mythical motorsport championship like IndyCar,” said the Grassois driver in the American media.
“I have been watching the championship since I was very young, and the races are amazing. I was thrilled to receive the call from the team. I am grateful to Zak Brown, Gavin Ward, and Tony Kanaan for considering me for this opportunity and to the Stake team for allowing me to take the wheel in Long Beach. I also regret that the opportunity arose while David is continuing his recovery. The task will not be easy, but I am ready.”
One or several races?
For now, only his participation in the Californian round has been confirmed. However, Théo Pourchaire could also race at Barber the following weekend, depending on the progress of the injury sustained by David Malukas. The American driver has been out since the beginning of the season due to a wrist injury incurred in mid-February during a mountain biking outing.
Tune in this Sunday to follow the race of the new IndyCar Rookie. The GP will be broadcast at 9 PM on the Canal+ group channels.
