Two weeks after the devastating passage of Storm Aline in the Alpes-Maritimes, the government recognizes the state of natural disaster for ten municipalities on November 3rd.
Last October 20th, the department was preparing for the arrival of Storm Aline, fear in their hearts three years after Storm Alex which claimed the lives of 18 people. This time, there is no human toll to report, however, there are significant material damages, especially in the Vรฉsubie Valley.
Published on this November 3rd in the Official Journal, this decree is the first addressing requests from the affected towns for recognition of the state of natural disaster. Ten municipalities receive this recognition: Belvรฉdรจre, Bonson, Breil-sur-Roya, Isola, Massoins, Roquebiliรจre, Saint-Martin-Vรฉsubie, Utelle, Valdeblore, and Venanson.
Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice, praised on his Twitter account, โthe reactivity of the French governmentโ, on this recognition request which he had โimmediately demanded from Gรฉrald Darmaninโ.
The affected parties now have 30 days, from this November 3rd, to submit an estimated statement of losses they have suffered to their insurance companies. This allows them to benefit from the special regime provided for this purpose.
โThis recognition of the state of natural disaster two weeks after the storm demonstrates the Stateโs and the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimesโ will to continue being present for our valleys and to act as quickly as possible to enable the affected municipalities and residents to return to normal lifeโ, shared the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes.
The overall estimated cost of reconstruction work, according to the Alpes-Maritimes department, currently amounts to 40 million euros (31.1 million for Saint-Martin-Vรฉsubie and 8.9 million euros for Roquebiliรจre).
