So, Paris will indeed host the Summer Games in 2024. Los Angeles, the only rival of the French capital, revised its plans and announced on Monday, July 31, that it would now bid for the 2028 Games.
But the Parisian team refused to engage in any triumphalism. Instead of cheers, they chose a more modest stance, reflecting a campaign that often prioritized substance over style.
The Parisian team explained that it aimed to “achieve a ‘win-win-win’ result with the IOC and the Los Angeles bid committee.
“The announcement made by Los Angeles allows us to optimistically believe in the realization of the agreement, a condition set by the IOC for a dual 2024-2028 allocation. The CNOSF and the French sports movement will now prepare for the Lima session and continue to work on what the Paris 2024 Games would bring to French sports and France,” reacted Tony Estanguet, the co-chair of the bid and future president of the organizing committee; Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris; and Denis Masseglia, the president of the National Olympic Committee (CNOSF).
The latter two will sign the host city contract next September in Lima.
