The European Commission has just published the list of the ten European cities that are finalists for the European Capital of Innovation Award 2017.
The Nice Cรดte dโAzur Metropolis is among the finalists alongside cities like Berlin, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Paris. A total of 32 cities from 17 countries submitted applications.
The winners will be announced on November 7th in Lisbon, during the Web Summit, the world’s largest technology conference.
Created by the European Commission, the European Capital of Innovation Award recognizes the efforts of European cities to promote innovation and thereby improve the quality of life for their citizens. Nice hopes to follow in the footsteps of the previous award-winning cities: Barcelona and Amsterdam.
Nice’s application was praised for “its smart city strategy, allowing citizens to participate in decisions related to innovations in areas such as climate change, ‘aging better,’ environmental risks, and security.”
