On October 23, the mayor of Nice inaugurated the Jeanne d’Arc park, a green space right in the heart of the Fuon Cauda neighborhood. This long-awaited project, decades in the making, marks a turning point for the neighborhood, offering both parking and nature.
For 40 years, the residents of Fuon Cauda have been waiting for a major change: to replace the old surface parking lot with a more ambitious project. This wish, expressed many times during neighborhood committees, has finally been fulfilled. Now, the neighborhood benefits from 270 parking spaces spread over three underground levels, thus freeing up the surface for a green space of 2,200 mยฒ.
An island of coolness and conviviality
The new Jeanne d’Arc park aims to bring nature back to the heart of the neighborhood, which was once marked by heat islands in the summer. This project offers a real breath of fresh air to the locals, with 70 trees planted and a thoughtful greening to absorb rainwater and improve the quality of life. Referring to recent heatwave episodes, the mayor highlighted the importance of creating islands of coolness in response to climate change.
A strong symbol for all the people of Nice
The park, adjacent to the Jeanne d’Arc church, also features a new statue of the saint, crafted by local artisans. For Christian Estrosi, this historical figure embodies a symbol of unity and togetherness, a strong message for the people of Nice, regardless of their origins or beliefs.
