Tonight, OGC Nice Côte d’Azur Handball secured a dazzling victory against Plan-de-Cuques. This match took place as part of the group stage of the Women’s French Cup.
The Charles Ehrmann Sports Hall was buzzing tonight. In this second group match of the French Cup, the women of Nice left no room for doubt. Against Plan-de-Cuques, a team they had met in a preparation match (loss 24-25), the Niçoises pulled no punches.
The first half was balanced. The pace was intense with quick goal exchanges. From the first minutes, both teams displayed their offensive intentions, as seen with Marie Fall (7 goals) for Nice and Chloé Bellonnet (7 goals) for Plan-de-Cuques. Although the visitors briefly took the lead (9-12 at the 18th minute), the Niçoises, led by an outstanding Wendy Semedo Monteiro, turned the situation around to lead (18-13) at halftime.
The Niçoise Offensive Machine
In the second half, Nice quickly widened the gap, scoring 22 goals. Wendy Semedo Monteiro ended the match as the top scorer with nine goals. Marine Dupuis and Marie-Hélène Sajka also made crucial contributions, with seven and six goals respectively, including several from seven-meter throws.
On the Plan-de-Cuques side, Chloé Bellonnet and Daphné Gautschi fought to narrow the gap, but the defensive efficiency of the Niçoises prevented any comeback. The gap widened inexorably at the beginning of the second half and again towards the end of the match. The Maralpines controlled the proceedings until the final whistle (40-29).
The women from the Azure Coast dominated the game through a strong collective performance. The players of Sébastien Mizoule demonstrated great tactical mastery and mental resilience. This triumph, combined with a prolific attack, sends a strong signal to the other teams following the loss on Wednesday against Paris. It’s proof that this team is capable of aiming high this season.
With this victory, Nice has six points and has secured qualification for the next round.
