The city of Nice paid tribute on Thursday, August 28, to the resistance fighters of Nice during the Liberation of Nice, 81 years ago. Here are images of the event.
On this August 28, the city of Nice held the traditional tribute to the fighters of Nice, who fought 81 years ago for the liberation of the city of Nice. The homage took place throughout the day, all across the city.
In the early afternoon, a tribute took place at the town hall, with the presence of numerous local officials. Among them were the mayor of the city, Christian Estrosi, the deputies รric Ciotti, Christelle D’Intorni, and Bernard Chaix, along with several city councilors. A gathering in front of the commemorative plaque was held in the courtyard of the City Hall.ย ย
The celebration lasted about fifteen minutes. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, spoke briefly, honoring the fighters who died for the city.
Following this short speech, a young girl sang to pay tribute to all these fighters. Subsequently, two wreaths were laid in front of the plaque: the first by departmental officials, the second by city officials.ย
After that, La Marseillaise was sung, led by a children’s choir, accompanied by an orchestra. This was followed by the “Chant des Partisans” and the traditional “Nissa la Bella.” The ceremony ended with a commemorative photo for the children.ย
