Ligue 1: the Aiglons lose again in Lorient

Latest News

OGC Nice was defeated (3โ€“1) on FC Lorientโ€™s turf, following a match where the Aiglons alternated between good sequences and moments of fragility. Despite a quick opening goal, Franck Haise’s team failed to maintain its lead.

For once, the beginning of the match quickly turned in favor of OGC Nice. From a corner by Jonathan Clauss, a scramble in Lorient’s area led to Arthur Avom Ebong scoring an own goal (0โ€“1, 12th minute). A fortunate goal, resulting from no real constructed action.

Mohamed-Ali Cho, very incisive, made multiple accelerations and put pressure on the Breton defense. However, the Aiglons were unable to capitalize on this initial strong phase.

Lorient reacts and equalizes

Gradually, Lorient woke from its slumber. More aggressive in duels and better organized, Rรฉgis Le Bris’s players rose in intensity. On a poorly cleared ball, captain Laurent Abergel emerged in the box and equalized with a precise strike (1โ€“1, 31st minute).

Despite this equalizer, OGC Nice did not give up. The Aiglons continued to fight, stayed organized, and tried to rebuild cleanly. The match became more physical and contested, with more duels. Some errors in their play complicated things for the Red and Blacks, but the team maintained mental control, never losing their composure or organization.

A fatal second half for OGC Nice

Just before halftime, and then as the second half resumed, Lorient struck intensely. Sambou Soumano took advantage of Nice’s defensive passivity to beat Yehvann Diouf for the first time (45โ€™+2), and then gave the Merlus the lead again early in the second half on a poorly defended free-kick (2โ€“1, 53rd minute).

Then, in the 53rd minute, Jaumano doubled the lead with a poorly cleared free-kick by the Nice defense, raising the score to (3โ€“1), highlighting Lorient’s superiority of the evening. The Nice players, unable to move forward, seemed resigned.

To make matters worse, Kojo Peprah Oppong had to leave the field due to injury, further disrupting the defensive structure. Behind, Nice struggled but did not give up. The Gym showed remarkable spirit, refusing to let the match slip away.

If there is one Aiglon to highlight, it is undoubtedly Yehvann Diouf. Once again, the Nice goalkeeper performed several decisive saves, demonstrating his composure and ability to keep the team in the game. In a challenging period, having such a consistent and calm goalkeeper is a real advantage. He is, without a doubt, one of the reliable strengths of this team and an essential element for maintaining a solid defensive base. Having already delivered impressive performances in recent weeks, the goalkeeper made several crucial saves to prevent the score from worsening. Calm in his outings, reassuring on his line, he confirms that he is a true pillar of the group. His performance shows that Nice can rely on him in tough times, a crucial point for the remainder of the season.

A worrying trend for the Aiglons

With this fourth consecutive defeat, OGC Nice is sinking into a worrying spiral. The situation is clearly not ideal. But the team remains united and capable of producing good play. Many teams go through rough patches: the important thing is how you come out of them.

The match against Angers on December 7th must now serve as a turning point. At home, in front of always loyal fans, the Aiglons will have the ideal opportunity to revive their dynamic and restore confidence within the group.
