March at the Museum 2026: An Invitation to Introspection

Latest News

From self-reflection to pure reflection, this year, the students in charge of the Mars au Musée festival take us on an introspection journey about self-vision, through various artists and museums and their interpretation of the “I.” A real game of mirrors is implemented so that each visitor can reveal themselves.

For 25 years, the city of Nice and the Université Côte d’Azur have collaborated to host a month-long festival of museums every March. Mars au Musée is a festival created by students and for students, offering an original program aimed at attracting a young audience, centered around a theme that serves as a common thread throughout the month.

This year, Mirror, the Confidence of Reflections, is an innovative topic that aims to question us about the self-image and our place in society, particularly through social media. Chosen by the students themselves after months of discussions, along with four sub-themes for four dates, related to the museum collections: “I am me, I am different, I am on stage, I am grandiose.” Esther Fribourg, president of the MICA (Médiateurs et Ingénieurs Culturels Associés) association in charge of the festival, tells us: “We started from our own feelings, our own fears, which can be common to all students. Throughout the discussions, we arrived at a main idea: that of self-perception and the perception of others.”

A closing this Sunday at the Palais Lascaris

Mediation workshops, creative workshops, theatrical, musical, and choreographic performances were on the program. On March 6, the Charles Nègre Photography Museum kicked things off, featuring a choreographic performance by Anna Zweifel and Esteban Lemal Bonilla from the Nice Conservatory, as well as a writing workshop.

That weekend also included two of the four festival dates. On March 14, at the Matisse Museum, a treasure hunt took place among the unique faces of Henri Matisse’s portraits, followed by a participatory aquatint workshop and a screening on the techniques used by the artist in creating his portraits.

On Sunday, activities continued at the Marc Chagall National Museum: a play was performed by the Télescope collective, specially for the occasion, centered around the journey of four invisible women searching for their identity through their reflection; followed by a choreographic performance by Sara Mistrorigo of the Amorphous Dance Company, on the reflection of water. An additional colorimetry workshop and a mediation inviting the audience to explore the use of colors to present oneself were also available.

This festival, which only lasts a month, will conclude on Sunday, March 29 at the Palais Lascaris. For this grand finale, workshops, mediation sessions, and theater will be joined by a musical dialogue between two flutists who will interpret this game of mirrors before our eyes. Once again, students will invite the public to admire how grandeur is built and asserted to close the festival month beautifully.
