According to the first elements, two individuals in a vehicle opened fire on a group of people on this central square in the Moulins district. Several shots were fired before the vehicle fled.
The prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes confirmed an ongoing intervention on his social media. The authorities are asking residents and motorists to avoid the area so as not to hinder operations. The perimeter has been completely sealed off.
The Prefecture states: « Laurent Hottiaux, Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes immediately went to the scene with Damien Martinelli, Prosecutor of the Republic and Eric Ciotti, Mayor of Nice. A shooting broke out resulting in two deaths, three serious injuries and three minor injuries. All police services are mobilized to find the perpetrators currently at large and bring them to justice as quickly as possible. I offer my full support to the police officers mobilized every day in this district to fight delinquency and drug trafficking that endanger residents. »
Traffic slowdowns have also been reported on the A8 motorway toward Saint-Isidore.
