It was quite cold on the Croisette that Sunday evening. After the sports parade that morning on the Promenade des Anglais, we were treated to another parade. After the collections by Salvatore Ferragamo, Valentino and Christian Lacroix, it was the JIKI collection that was presented on the stage of the Festival Palace to finish off this first weekend of the festival in style.
Having arrived early in Cannes, and faced with the icy wind sweeping through the azure city, we couldn’t wait outside doing nothing in the cold. So we entered the first lit place we found and ended up… at the Carlton, nothing less. In an always very luxurious atmosphere, the celebrities’ bar opened its doors to us so we could wait warm for the red carpet. But what to choose to warm our frozen bodies? The choice was left to the bartender, in whom it is necessary to have confidence to have a good time. Two delicious cocktails later, Emilie and I set off again (thank you again my little Emilie for your insights) to storm the palace, wondering what the stylist JIKI had in store for us.
JIKI, whose real name is Jeannette I.K. Ivarson, the talented fashion designer of Swedish origin grew up and settled in Monte-Carlo. From this princely city, she retained elegance and refinement. To a catchy tune, pretty models showcased colorful outfits. The beginning of the show was very inspired by lingerie as the designer offered us many corsets and girdles for a sensually elegant silhouette. Then there was a range of several models, such as the ensemble in flowered voile presented in three different forms. A rather monotonous collection overall with a few colors and some printed patterns declined in a multitude of garments: dresses, skirts, tops or camisoles.
However, we felt the desire to bring some life to this collection with tangy colors for the three orange and pink dresses.
The presentation delighted fashion enthusiasts and ready-to-wear fans. The research in the choreography of the show, particularly for the “final bouquet,” shows how well the Scandinavian designer knows her subject. She knows how to win over the crowd that had come in large numbers and with children for this last show of the weekend.
The collection, composed almost exclusively of evening dresses, has a bright future ahead of it if the hearty applause that greeted the stylist’s arrival on stage is any indication, accompanied by her granddaughter, at the end of the performance.
The expertise and personal touch of the designer are exported worldwide, from Geneva to Saint Tropez, of course via Cannes and even to Miami. Far be it from us to go so far. Satisfied with the beginning of our evening and eager to extend this magical moment, we decided to continue it by returning for a drink… at the Carlton!
