Turnout at 5 p.m. in the Alpes-Maritimes for the second round of 2026 municipal elections is up compared to the first round and the 2020 election. Benchmarks from previous elections show highly contrasting levels, ranging from 29.50% in 2020 to over 62% in 2014.
Voter mobilization is confirmed in the Alpes-Maritimes for the second round of the 2026 municipal elections, with a turnout rate at 5 p.m. that marks a significant increase compared to previous elections. According to data released by the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture, departmental turnout stands at 47.26% at 5 p.m. compared to 48.10% at the national level. As a reminder, at noon the turnout rate was 20.66%.
A level that is up compared to the first round this year and also higher than that observed in the second round of the 2020 municipal elections. This first end-of-afternoon indicator makes it possible to measure a more pronounced momentum than that observed at midday.
In the first round, on March 15, turnout reached 41.39% at 5 p.m. in the Alpes-Maritimes, after a first reading of 15.86% at noon. The second round had started with slightly higher mobilization at midday, where turnout was 20.66%, a level equivalent to that observed at the national level (20.33%). This increase between the two rounds is thus confirmed as voting polls approach closing.
Comparisons with previous elections also shed light on the trend. In 2020, in the first round of municipal elections, turnout at 5 p.m. was only 29.50%, a level significantly lower than that recorded today. The contrast remains stark with 2014, when turnout reached 62.77% at the same time, in a very different electoral context. More recent benchmarks from national elections show intermediate levels: 54.48% in the first round of the 2024 legislative elections and 45.54% in the 2024 European elections.
Voters have until 7 p.m. to vote throughout the Alpes-Maritimes department, and until 8 p.m. in Nice, where the late closing of polling stations could still affect final turnout. Results will be announced from 8 p.m., and not before 10 p.m. in Nice at the end of a day marked by increasing voter mobilization.
