Accident on the A8 near Nice: traffic severely disrupted after Saint-Isidore towards Italy

An accident involving four cars occurred on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 on the A8 motorway, a few kilometers after the Saint-Isidore toll booth near Nice. Traffic remains severely disrupted heading toward Italy, with up to seven kilometers of slowdowns recorded in the early afternoon.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, around 10:47 AM, a pile-up involving four vehicles occurred five kilometers after the Saint-Isidore toll booth, in the France-Italy direction.

The collision occurred inside the Saint-Pierre de Féric tunnel, on the Nice bypass. From 10:47 AM, Vinci Autoroutes reported an accident in the area and urged motorists to exercise caution: “10:47 AM: on the A8 heading toward Italy after Nice St Isidore North, travel time extended by approximately 10 minutes. Our teams are responding to an accident. Vehicles are traveling on a single lane. Exercise extra vigilance.”

Law enforcement and a patrol officer from the motorway operator were mobilized to secure the area and allow the evacuation of the damaged vehicles.

Since the accident occurred on the left lane, it was closed. Motorists are traveling on a single lane, causing significant traffic difficulties starting from the Saint-Isidore toll booth.

Shortly after 11 AM, exit #52 “Saint-Isidore” was also closed to facilitate emergency services and operations team intervention.

At 1 PM, the situation remains complicated. Authorities report seven kilometers of traffic jams heading toward Italy, with travel time extended by approximately 30 minutes. Motorists are urged, where possible, to avoid the area and to use an alternative route until normal traffic conditions are restored.

While the damage appears to be material only, it is important to remind road safety rules during this period when traffic is very dense on the A8 motorway.
