“Never forget that toilets always reflect the personality of a person or a place!!”
It is with this maxim that Daï and Hype, two computer enthusiasts from Nice, imagined and then created a website dedicated to toilets: TZ (https://tzcommunity.free.fr).
Thus, you will be able to discover the restrooms of many establishments in Nice, Monaco, or Paris, as well as those of individuals who make this place, usually not shown, somewhere pleasant… to live.
A happy initiative which, as you will see, gives some ideas on how to decorate this place visited by everyone, at home as well as in businesses.
But say, Daï, why “a crappy website”?
Franck Viano.
Why a website about establishments’ toilets?
The site ToiletZone was born in 2000.
Initially, we wanted to create an original website.
Since my sister had a toilet decorated like an aquarium, we decided to make a website about toilets. Living in Paris at the time, Hype had the idea to also feature bar toilets, as they often have nice décor. Moreover, toilets often reflect the mindset of a bar and its hygiene.
Since then, we have been trying to take many pictures of bar toilets, trying not to come off as crazy or perverted. Naturally, we favor the most original toilets.
Today, living in Nice, I am determined to photograph all the toilets on the French Riviera, from the palatial bathrooms of Cannes to the bars of old Nice…
It’s really a hobby and often our friends get into it. Today, internet users send us their pictures of their personal “crappers” and it’s our greatest reward. (By the way, if any of your readers have cool décor in their toilets, they should send us their photos by email).
Who is behind this initiative?
My nickname is Daï and I set up the site with Hype.
I am 27 years old, and Hype is 30. Of course, we are computer scientists but you understand that with a subject like this one, we prefer to remain anonymous.
Your best moment and your worst memory?
Our best moments were the toilet nights, actually a pretext to tour the bars. As the evening progresses, the photos become increasingly ridiculous.
My worst memory is in 2000 when I borrowed my company’s camera to take photos and it broke. I received several cease and desist letters… it hurts when it’s for taking photos of toilets.
