A new state-of-the-art equipment for the Lacassagne Center

Latest News

Thanks to a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, the Antoine Lacassagne Center has acquired a 4D scanner, inaugurated on February 23 at the Mediterranean Institute of Proton Therapy.

With this new technology and the Sentinel system, the Mediterranean Institute of Proton Therapy will be able to treat patients with so-called “mobile” tumors, meaning those that move with breathing. Indeed, for these tumors, a 4D scanner is necessary to create a “film” of the tumor (4D for four dimensions, three for space and one for time).

The medical team can thus precisely track the movements of the tumor with breathing and accurately define the boundaries to be irradiated. This assessment of movement is especially crucial for young children, whose organs are close to one another.
