Faced with the high cost of student living on the French Riviera, the AGORAé in Nice opens its doors for the 6th year, to offer services and activities to students in precarious situations.
Developed by the Fédération des Associations Générales Étudiantes (FAGE) in 2011, the project has been supported locally by the Fédération des Associations et Corporations Étudiantes des Alpes-Maritimes since 2012, a project “for students, managed by students”.
This solidarity grocery store, also a place for exchanges, debates, and association services, provides access to a variety of quality products at 15% of the market price.
Nearly 250 beneficiaries in June 2017, 7,000 euros worth of products sold, and 2,800 checkouts: figures that speak for themselves, especially considering that 33% of AGORAé beneficiaries skip at least one meal per week and in 72% of cases, this is related to their financial situation.
However, the AGORAé should not create dependency; therefore, the project leaders put their energy into combating the exclusion and social isolation of the beneficiaries, who are encouraged to reflect on their personal projects and attend various activities and workshops, whether they be themed meals (for the low cost of 3 euros) or group outings.
