The pandemic has claimed more than 843,000 lives worldwide since the virus emerged in China at the end of December, according to a report established by Agence France-Presse (AFP) from official sources on Sunday, August 30.
In total, nearly 843,000 deaths have been recorded. Nearly 4 out of 10 cases are in the United States and Brazil, the two most affected countries, with roughly 6,000,000 and 3,800,000 cases respectively. The pace of the pandemic seems to be stabilizing globally, with an additional 1 million cases detected approximately every four days since mid-July.
The number of reported infections only reflects a portion of the real number of cases, as many countries use tests solely for tracing or lack sufficient resources to conduct wide-scale testing campaigns.
After being the first to be hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, Asia has once again become the region of the world that recorded the most new cases over the past seven days (570,819), with more than 80% of them occurring in India alone.
